Paralegal Program at South Coast College: Family Affair

Paralegal Diann Prince recently graduated from the Paralegal Program at South Coast College.  Her son, Daniel Prince, is a student at 180 wpm in the Court Reporting Program.

Where Are They Now? Linda Hernandez, CSR

Court reporter, Linda Hernandez, CSR, was in contact with President Jean Gonzalez recently.  She indicated that she is now working in a court in Norwalk.  Linda was a nurse while she was attending South Coast College.  She indicated that she loves working in court.  It was great hearing from you, Linda.

Where Are They Now? Lois Abate, CSR

Court Reporter, Lois Abate, CSR, is a graduate of South Coast College who has an interesting employment arrangement.  Four days a week, Lois works in Inglewood Court as a court reporter.  On Fridays, she accompanies a district attorney and a judge to Catalina to hold court in Avalon.  Lois has been working in this capacity for the past six years.

Lois was a great student who completed the court reporting program in two years. 

If anyone knows the whereabouts of reporters who have interesting working arrangements, please continue to let us know.

Court reporter, Marlene Duron, CSR, a graduate of South Coast College, was at the RPR Examination held at South Coast College last Saturday.  Marlene looked well and happy.  She indicated that she loved working with Sarnoff Reporters. 

UPDATE on Court Reporting Families

In an earlier entry on court reporting, Mallory Owen indicated that her mother, Lisa, went to school at South Coast College with Jim Pitton, father of Mary Pitton, and both of them went to school with Michelle Pfeiffer.  Mallory also indicated that her mother, Lisa, became a deposition reporter and worked with Paul Pay’s grandfather at his deposition agency.  Mallory sat for her first qualifier last week.  Jim Pitton, who restarted school with his daughter, is at 160 wpm.  His daughter is at 150 wpm.  His daughter contracted cancer last year and had a brief hiatus from school.  Paul Pay is at 170 wpm.  All are following in the footsteps of their relatives. 

Court Reporting Graduate, Cheryl Parrish — A Special Person

Court Reporter and agency owner, Cheryl Parrish, CSR, understands what it is like to overcome obstacles to become a court reporter.  Despite the fact that Cheryl developed cancer while in the court reporting program and had to deal with the physical aspects of the disease, she not only went on to become a court reporter but an agency owner.

Cheryl recently has encouraged another individual, Lillia Luna, to pursue court reporting.  Lillia is now in the court reporting program at South Coast College.  Lillia tells us how much Cheryl has done for both her and her family and tells us what a great person she is.  We all agree!

Court Reporter, Valerie Harris, CSR, Visits

Court reporter, Valerie Harris, CSR, surprised President Jean Gonzalez today by appearing to talk to new students.  The new students had many questions to ask Valerie who is now working in the Los Angeles Courts.  Valerie explained that she started the Court Reporting Program at South Coast College immediately upon graduation from high school.  She completed the program in two years and passed the CSR upon her first attempt. 

Valerie then went on to being a deposition reporter.  In the meantime, she took the RPR examination and passed it.  For the past two years, she has been working in court.  She said that she is 27 years old and has a great career.  She loves being a court reporter.  She said that Celena De Hart, CSR, and Wendy Goodman, CSR, are both working with her in court.

Valerie went on to tell President Gonzalez that Kimberly Mesa, CSR, is doing well at Kusar Reporters and that Summer Tang, CSR, just had a baby and will be returning to deposition reporting.

Court Reporter, Cynthia Bacad, CSR, dropped by to give us updates on what she is doing.  Cynthia said that her classmate, Carlos Hicho, CSR, is also doing really well.   Both of them are working as deposition reporters.  Thanks for your update, Cynthia.

Toni O’Neill, CSR, Chair of CRB Task Force

Toni O’Neill, CSR, graduate of South Coast College, has been appointed as Chair of the Court Reporters Board of California’s Task Force to review School Curriculum.  Ms. O’Neill was appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger as a Court Reporters Board Member.  Ms. O’Neill spoke at one of the South Coast College graduations.
