Court Reporting Program.  At South Coast College in Orange, CA., it is the tradition for the President to treat the CSR Candidates for the upcoming state examination and the court reporting faculty to a limo/luncheon.  The CSR Candidates for the February 2009 CSR examination are as follows:  Jamie Matlock, Candace Galvan, Kaleigh Sargeant, Andrea Rinker, and Tracy Brown.  All five are outstanding students.  Four out of five qualified in fewer than two years and the other in two and one-half years.

The advice they offered to the students at a panel in which they participated was to follow the program.  All followed the program and attended school every day.

Each of them had a unique story to tell about how they heard or got interested in court reporting.  Jamie Matlock had a cousin who was a graduate of the court reporting program at South Coast College.  She had seen how well she was doing but did not get interested in coming to school until another cousin expressed interest.  She started before her cousin, Erin Vernon.  Now Erin has entered the program.

Andrea Rinker had a B.A. degree in Criminology.  She came to South Coast College to investigate the Paralegal Program.  One of the students taking her around is a court reporting student who encouraged her to try court reporting.  It was a good choice.  She qualified for the CSR examination in 14 months.

Tracy Brown had started court reporting at South Coast College 25 years ago.  She got to 170 wpm and stopped to have a family.  The desire to become a court reporter never left her.

Kaleigh Sargeant was working as a teller for Bank of America.  A woman came in and asked her how old she was.  She told her she was 18.  The woman told her that her daughter was a court reporter in Iowa and that she was doing great.  Kaleigh took her advice and found South Coast College.
